Dinner in Ghana

I arrived in Accra today and managed to get a little food in the house in Tema. I threw together dinner tonight (carpenters are downstairs in the kitchen, so I brought a hot plate and rice cooker upstairs, and balanced everything on a tiny table): just rice, braised cabbage, and a simple stew, with Ghana pineapple for dessert.

This post is also to let folks in Ghana know I'm here. My old SIM  card doesn't work, so tomorrow I'll get a new one and likely a different phone number, too. Husband home in Pennsylvania Skyped me and insisted I take a picture of the first meal I cooked in our house here.

It's fabulous to be home (more on the house that DK built later). I'm pretty tired, though, and managed to slice my finger while I was cutting peppers. Ouch.

I am so jealous you are in Ghana. I visited a friend by the Techi-Nunuwa station near Tema. Have fun!

The meal looks great. Sorry about your finger. Glad you got to Ghana safely. I'll be checking your blog regularly and looking forward to what else you cook.

Hi Fran,
How wonderful it is to see such up-to-date news about you! I wanted to talk to you and would like to call. Can you email me your new number in Ghana and the best time to call? Hopefully you still have my email. Anne M (from UC Berkeley) in Atlanta

Anne: Wonderful to hear from you. My computer stopped working almost the day I arrived in Ghana. We've managed to patch it together for awhile, so I hope I'll be able to do blog postings again. How is the dissertation going?

Yum! I have a Ghanaian friend here who makes the best food! My favorite food in Africa was in Cameroon, but then again, I have never been to Ghana. Love your blog!

Hello Fran. My name is Melissa and I find I can't believe I stumbled across your blog. I am a Penn State Alum and have two daughters with a man originally from Togo and Ghana. He took us to Africa last September and we spent around 30 days in Lome, Togo, and our last few days in teh Accra area. Since I met him, I have been falling in love with the cuisine from his countries and traveling there grew that love even more. I was searching the internet for sugar bread recipes because I miss it terribly, and found your blog, not believing that you are from State College! I could relate to many things you say and as a side note, my younger brother is up at PSU, so we visit sometimes. I am glad to have found you/your blog and look forward to seeing your blogs and recipes and hope to be able to ask questions if I ever have need.
